About WebMocha

The Company

It all started over a mocha in a cafe one day. Isn't that how most great companies start?

We are a team of web development professionals with years of experience from large and small companies such as Yahoo!, eBay, Scient, Ernst & Young, Simply Hired, Food Network, HGTV, and CBS. This experience has taught us how to develop for massive audiences on a painfully large variety of web browsers and mobile microbrowsers. It wasn't easy, but we loved doing it. And that's how we can help you.

Our skills include:

  • XHTML, HTML5
  • CSS
  • JavaScript
  • DOM, AJAX, JSON
  • SEO
  • LAMP (Linux, Apache, MySQL, PHP)
  • Ruby on Rails
  • Flash, Flex, ActionScript

One of our development philosophies: optimize for developers first (using design patterns & best practices), users second (using automated tools). This allows us to have flexible teams and quicker development cycles.

Another development philosophy: work with our clients to build the most usable and sensible site or application that we can. We're not going to just take your specs and blindly build what you've written. We're going to ask questions, make suggestions, and work with you to help you achieve your goals.

A third development philosophy: do what you love and you'll never work a day in your life. We're passionate about what we do. If we weren't building websites for clients, we'd be building websites for ourselves. We're web geeks at heart, what can we say?

Founders

George Diaz

George Diaz

George began his web development career at the University of California at Davis. There, he created the School of Veterinary Medicine: Department of Anatomy, Physiology and Cell Biology's first web site. Post UC Davis saw George working at a few startups with much shorter names. Among them: Scient, Wideorbit and Avasta, Inc.

George then began his 5 year stint at Yahoo! with Yahoo! Travel. There, he worked on a number of projects: the travel guide, the hotel guide and the farechase redesigns to name a few. He then went on to build sites for the number one online news resource. At Yahoo! News he worked on a number of highly trafficked sites receiving over 45 million users per month. While there, he also worked on a few Yahoo! originals like Kevin Sites' Hot Zones, Richard Bang's Adventures, and Yahoo! Underground.

Since Yahoo! George's handiwork can be seen in the redesigns of both Foodnetwork.com and HGTV.com.

Mike Lee

Mike Lee

Mike has the dubious honor of being one of the first web developers at Yahoo! who specialized in HTML, CSS & JavaScript and brought a traditional computer science discipline to the field.

He helped grow that team of web developers from three to forty, then became a senior technical manager for products such as the Yahoo! homepage and My Yahoo!, amongst others. Mike finished off his 6 year career there on Yahoo! Shopping and the Yahoo! User Interface (YUI) team as a senior product manager. He also consumed way too many white chocolate mochas every day.

Prior to all that, Mike worked at Viant, Ernst & Young, and CBS, helping build web sites for a diverse set of clients such as Whole Foods, Bank of America, and the Late Show with David Letterman.

Barney Mok

Barney Mok

With a BS in Computer Science and MS in Computer Engineering, Barney has a strong foundation in building complex, world-class consumer and enterprise systems. On top of that, he has a BSC in Marketing too. Where does he find the time?

At eBay, he architected and implemented a framework of reusable object-oriented JavaScript components for site-wide use. He brought this experience along to Yahoo!, where he helped develop the Yahoo! FareChase application and architect the new AJAX UI of the Yahoo! homepage, the most visited page on the web.

Prior to eBay, Barney worked at start-up Cybrant (now part of Escalate) developing a generic Java database access layer for their CRM suite. Before forming WebMocha with George and Mike, he was a lead software engineer and co-architect of a PHP framework at the start-up SimplyHired. Working at start-ups is in Barney's blood.

- Tim Brady, CEO, Quest Scholars Program

Mike and team are seasoned pros. They're can-do, dependable, and deliver high quality product. I highly recommend WebMocha for your next project.

- Jim Squires, VP of Products, Mixercast

MOG looked to WebMocha to architect our entire front end -- from the HTML/CSS structure to rich interaction with jQuery/javascript. In just a couple months, they were able to produce dozens of page templates dead-on spec and fully compliant across browsers. We were thrilled with the results... and how quickly we saw them!

- Jed Meade, Senior Product Manager, MOG

The team at WebMocha is impressive. Their speed and efficiency as well as affordable prices, keep them on top of our very short list of trusted development vendors. We're happy to call them a "strategic partner" and will most certainly use them again.

- Bill Daggett, Principal & Founder, ZENxd

After hearing others' glowing reviews, I hired WebMocha to code my web site, and I couldn't have been happier with the results. Mike and his team went above and beyond my expectations. Not only was the coding impeccable, but their customer service was excellent. They were extremely responsive to questions and the many design tweaks I asked them to make, and when there were glitches with my services provider, they resolved the issues without complaint. I highly recommend WebMocha!
